This resource is a collection of activities, songs, and games for the elementary music classroom and explores three themes: Bugs, Light, and Transportation. Learning thematically enables children to connect a variety of concepts and focus on multiple music goals. Rather than focusing on isolated outcomes, teaching thematically and using the foundations of the Orff approach allow for many creative opportunities, critical thinking, and reflection.
Each of the three units can be taught in their entirety, or teachers can pick and choose activities and customize as they see fit. The units each include songs with lyrics and Orff arrangements, games that help build musical skills, listening and literacy activities, and composition opportunities. These lessons are centered around having fun and making music in a meaningful way, all while engaging the whole child.
